The brief for this garden was to create a private space that was attractive to wildlife. I designed raised beds to enclose the space and make maintenance easier as it is possible to sit on the edge. A decorative corten steel screen was added to hide the neighbour's shed and create privacy with an amelanchier tree planted into the corner as it has interest in spring, summer and autumn.
Due to the difficult soil conditions, the home was built on lignite soil with shallow drains running across the back of the garden. In order to have a focal point, a crab apple tree was planted in a large terracotta pot with the apples being enjoyed by the birds.
